Okorocha Moves To Name A Road After Late 10 Yr-Old Boy Who Was Killed During The Eke-Ukwu Market Demolition
According to report, Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha has finally decided to immortalise 10-year-old boy killed during market demolition.
Late Somtochukwu Ibeanusi, a 10-year-old boy, was reportedly killed by a stray bullet as violence escalated between traders and security operatives during the demolition of the market.
While during the incident, the state government had denied that anyone died in the clash which was countered by reports showing that the young boy was hit by a stray bullet.
Sam Onwuemeodo, the chief press secretary to the governor, confirmed Okorocha will honour the deceased in a statement, The Cable reports.
The governor reportedly said that any building erected on the site of the demolished market would be named after the deceased.
The governor said his action in demolishing the market was to liberate the people from a wicked clique made up of few families who have held them captive for years.
“Not minding how and where the 10-year-old boy, late Somtochukwu Ibeanusi died on the day the Eke Ukwu Market was demolished and relocated, I will honour him by naming Douglas road after his name,” Okorocha said.
“I have liberated Owerri indigenes from a wicked clique made up of few families in the area who have held the people captive for many years,” the statement quoted governor as saying.
Okorocha claimed the death of the boy is a mystery considering that he died far away from the scene of the demolition.
He however said irrespective of this, the late boy would be immortalized.
According to NAIJ.com report, days after violence broke out in Owerri, an Abuja-based lawyer, Charles Mbalisi, took Governor Rochas Okorocha to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
This was as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) called for the resignation or impeachment of Okorocha for his alleged role in the incident which led to the death of a 10-year-old boy, Somtochukwu Ibeanusi.
