Lionel Messi Has More Goals Than 15 PSL Teams In South Africa
According to statistics, FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi has scored More goals than 15 Premier Soccer League clubs in South Africa.
The Argentine netted four times in his side’s 6-1 thrashing of Eibar on Tuesday, taking his overall tally for the new La Liga campaign to nine strikes.
In so doing, he has scored as many goals as bitter rivals Real Madrid have so far – in fact, only 13 teams in Europe’s top five leagues (with as many games) have scored more than the 30-year-old.
Messi has also scored more than almost all of South Africa’s top flight teams, with surprise leaders Golden Arrows the only exception after scoring 10 goals in their first five league games. Baroka and Kaizer Chiefs are the closest to Messi’s current tally, with both sitting on seven strikes in five fixtures.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is matched by Radamel Falcao at the top of the current goalscoring charts across Europe’s top five leagues, but the AS Monaco striker has played one more game than the Barca talisman has.
Paris Saint-Germain are the current top scorers in Europe, having netted 21 times in six games, while Napoli follow in second spot with 19 strikes in five outings. The third spot is shared by Messi’s Barcelona and Falcao’s Monaco, while Manchester United and Manchester City follow with 16 strikes each.
