The First And Only African FIFA Ballon d'Or Winner George Weah Reportedly Elected As New President of Liberia
Former Chelsea, Manchester City and AC Milan striker George Weah has emerged as the president-elect of Liberia as he is set to succeed Elen Johnson Sirleaf.
The 1995 Ballon d'Or winner finally achieved his dream of becoming the number one man in Liberia after he was beaten in 2005, when he came second in the presidential election with just over 40 percent of the vote, behind outgoing president Elen Johnson Sirleaf.
However, reports claim that Weah has now defeated his closest rival, Joseph Boakai who is also the incumbent vice president, Charles Brumskine and former Coca-Cola executive Alexander Cummings in the presidential election.
As at time of filing this report, the official results of the poll were still expected but unofficial results suggest Weah slightly defeated Boakai in the keenly contested election.
