Vigilante Dies After Shooting Himself While Testing A New Charm In Katsina.



A recent show of bravery went wrong when a man killed himself in Katsina state after his charm, meant to protect him from gunshots failed to work.
The deceased identified as Ahmadu Maikare was a member of Isan Gona Vigilante Group in Katsina.
The incident was said to have occurred at Dubul village in Matazu local government area of Katsina state.
Hinnews gathered that members of the vigilante group had converged at the residence of their leader, Sumaila Rabiu, to take part in a traditional ceremony and initiate new members when the incident happened.
Maikare was reportedly from Gidan Jimina village in Malumfashi local government area of Katsina state.
During the ceremony, he was in the middle of the gathering to display his prowess, wrapped himself up in the charms, did incantations, picked a dane gun and fired on himself and he died instantly.
Members of the vigilante groups fled after the incident, while his relatives and friends stayed back to remove his corpse.
The Police Public Relation DSP Gambo Isah in the state confirmed the incident and said investigation is ongoing on the matter.

"Students now drug invigilators with dangerous chemicals"... WAEC registrar claims

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, is lamenting the rate of examination malpractice among students, adding that students now drug invigilators using dangerous chemicals. According to the council’s Registrar, Iyi Uwadiae, who spoke during a press briefing at WAEC International Centre, Lagos, proposed international summit on examination malpractices for October 19 and 20. He said:  “In some cases, and particularly during private examinations, candidates now go to centres fully armed with guns and other weapons. For the public examinations, there are centres, and especially private schools, where invigilators are drugged to pave way for them to engage in exam malpractices.” He continued to say, ' waging war against examination malpractices has become very expensive and more difficult, particularly with the advent of social media.
